Migratory Shorebirds make huge journeys twice a year
When Winter arrives, Migratory Shorebirds take wing, flying from their breeding grounds in the Northern Hemisphere to the warmth of the Southern Hemisphere
The journey is reversed when the Shorebirds return to their breeding grounds for the Northern Summer
The Incredible Flight of the Shorebirds
Although some Shorebirds can fly very long distances, most species must break their journey along the way
The Shorebirds touch down in Wetlands (known as “staging points”) where they can rest and feed before continuing their flight across the globe
The routes they travel are called flyways
The East Asian - Australasian Flyway extends from the Arctic Circle through Eastern and South-east Asia to Australia and New Zealand
